INMO strike committee to discuss Labour Court recommendations

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is meeting this afternoon to discuss the recommendations issued by the Labour Court, following the suspension of strike action.

Members of the INMO strike committee will gather for a private meeting at 2pm this afternoon where they will discuss Labour Court recommendations that saw three days of strike action postponed this week.

It is believed the proposals, which are wide-ranging, include pay increases of between 2.5% and 7%.

But the outcome of today's meeting is far from clear - INMO General Secretary, Phil Ni Sheaghdha, speaking outside the Labour Court on Monday night, was guarded about the offer on the table, explaining that more work still has to be done.

She said: "It is progress, I think we have a lot of work to do. We have certain aspects that require further negotiation."

Today's meeting will see the INMO executive further explore those recommendations with the union's strike committees.

Members will then be balloted on the proposals in the coming weeks and that is the crucial litmus test as to whether or not nurses return to the picket lines
