Britney back in rehab

Troubled pop star Britney Spears is back in rehab for the third time.

Her manager Larry Rudolph confirmed she had gone back into the Promises centre in Malibu on Wednesday night, just hours after checking out.

Mr Rudolph’s comments followed a report on showbiz website TMZ.com that claimed the shaven-headed pop princess was back in rehab for what should be a 35- to 40-day stay.

Entertainment show Extra said video showed Spears turning up at Promises again, driven by her mother Lynne.

Extra and TMZ reported that if the 25-year-old mother-of-two leaves rehab without completing a treatment programme this time, her estranged husband Kevin Federline plans to go to court seeking full custody of the children.

A planned emergency family law court hearing called by Federline was cancelled yesterday.

He and Spears are in a custody dispute over their two sons, Sean Preston, 17 months and five-month-old Jayden James.

Spears first checked into Promises on Tuesday and spent 24 hours at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads clinic in Antigua last week.

After leaving the Crossroads clinic, she prompted fears over her health by shaving off her own hair in full view of photographers.

Spears was photographed on Wednesday night angrily taking aim at a car with an umbrella, reportedly outside the house where Federline is staying.

The singer was said to have spent 45 minutes outside the residence, before her mother picked her up and eventually took her to Promises.
