Discord in Tyrone as Mickey Harte request for a contract extension refused

Mickey Harte's request for an extension to his own term was rejected last night by the Tyrone county board.

Harte is the longest serving football manager in the country and his current deal is due to expire at the end of the 2017 Championship. He had requested a one-year extension but the county executive have decided to leave the deal as it stands.

Tyrone won the NFL Division Two title in 2016 and went on to win a first Ulster SFC title since 2010.

Their eight-month unbeaten run came to an end in August when they lost by a point to Mayo in the All-Ireland quarter-final.

Harte has been in charge of the Tyrone senior footballers since 2002 and has led them to All Ireland glory three times during his tenure and also won five Ulster titles.
