Former Manchester United manager Tommy Docherty has said he is convinced Jaap Stam’s sudden move to Lazio is a direct result of his controversial autobiography, which was published two weeks ago.
In the book, the 29-year-old Dutchman claims Alex Ferguson tapped him up, he criticises the club’s withdrawal from last year’s FA Cup and he takes swipes at his fellow players.
Docherty said today that Ferguson got rid of Stam to show his authority at Old Trafford. “He’s a great manager,” Docherty said, “but if you fall out with him, you know the consequences.”
