A 2-year-old boy has died after drowning in Co Waterford.

A 2-year-old boy has died after drowning in Co Waterford.

It happened on a beach in the village of Boatstrand at about 7pm last night.

Gardaí arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and the boy was rushed to Waterford Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

There are no further details at this stage.

Update 9.50am

It is believed a number of people were on the beach at the time and a nurse who was at the scene tried to resuscitate the child.
