Perry hoping to inspire us with CoverGirl make-up

Katy Perry has become the new face of CoverGirl cosmetics.

The 'Roar' singer follows in the footsteps of Pink and Janelle Monáe as the latest ambassador for the popular beauty brand, with her ads set to debut in Spring 2014.

The pop princess said in a statement: "In addition to music, I've always considered makeup to be a powerful creative avenue of self-expression. I'm honored to partner with CoverGirl and share more colors and textures of my approach to beauty to inspire my audience."

Katy already has experience of the beauty industry, having launched her own eyelash and fragrance ranges, but has never had a cosmetic partnership until now.

The 28-year-old star excitedly shared the news with her fans on Twitter, writing: "BEAUTIFUL news to share w/you all. Today is my 1st day as a @COVERGIRL! See what happens when you let the light in? #COVERGIRLKATY (sic)"

Esi Eggleston Bracey, the company's VP and General Manager, added: "Katy is the embodiment of a true CoverGirl - someone we root for, identify with, and get inspiration from a breadth of bold new beauty looks. We have been admirers of her music and her style for a long time, and are looking forward to a beautiful journey together."

CoverGirl, introduced in 1961, is famed for its celebrity spokeswomen, who have included models Christie Brinkley and Tyra Banks. The current roster includes Sofia Vergara, Queen Latifah, Pink, Ellen DeGeneres and Janelle Monáe.
