A man is in hospital following a burglary in Co Longford.

Gardaí at Edgeworthstown, Co Longford, are investigating an aggravated burglary which occurred at (Sunday 18th May 2014)

Three men entered a house on Chapel Lane, Edgeworthstown, shortly after midday yesterday and attacked the man living there.

They locked him in the toilet and stole property.

The injured man managed to free himself and alert Gardaí before he was brought to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar where he was treated for minor injuries.

In a follow-up operation, investigating Gardaí arrested a 44-year-old man in tEdgeworthstown in connection with the incident.

Some property was also recovered.

He is being detained at Granard Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 - Criminal Justice Act 1984.
