The Government has launched a new €2.7bn initiative to bolster Ireland's science and technology sector.
The strategy will mean increased funding for university research and aims to double the number of postgraduates.
Speaking at the launch, the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern said it will make Ireland a bigger player in the global technology market.
The business and employers group IBEC said it was a "major boost to research and development in Ireland".
