Ronnie O’Sullivan has apologised for the lewd comments and sexual innuendos he made during a news conference in China.
The 32-year-old, about to begin his bid for a third world title, brandished a hand-held microphone suggestively after his loss to Marco Fu in the China Open in Beijing last month.
World Snooker boss Rodney Walker said O’Sullivan acted “unacceptably” and referred the case to the game’s disciplinary committee.
O’Sullivan insists he is ashamed of his behaviour, saying in 'The Times': “I was upset with myself because everything I did was the exact opposite of what my dad had taught me.
“I was there to socialise and network rather than win a snooker tournament. Dad instilled in me how to be a winner.
“He would be embarrassed to know how unprofessional my approach was in China.”
