Greens deny fresh speculation about Govt pull-out

The Green Party has denied fresh suggestions that it may withdraw from Government due to the controversy surrounding cuts announced in this month's Budget.

The Green Party has denied fresh suggestions that it may withdraw from Government due to the controversy surrounding cuts announced in this month's Budget.

Reports this morning say Green TD Paul Gogarty sent an email to a constituent saying the party "may eventually have to pull out of government on this or combined issues".

The email was sent just hours after party leader John Gormley publicly affirmed his intention to continue participating in the coalition despite widespread grass-roots concern about education cutbacks.

This morning, the Greens said Mr Gogarty's email was private correspondence and insisted that the party was in government for the long-haul.

Interestingly, no Green TDs were present in the Dáil last night for the debate on a Labour Party motion calling for a reversal of the education cuts.
