House prices rise for first time since August

House prices in Ireland rose by 0.7% in February, according to the latest edition of the Permanent TSB house price index.

The increase marks the first rise in house prices since August last year.

The Permanent TSB index also revealed that house prices rose by 2.6% in the 12 months to February 2002, compared to 2.4% in the 12 months to January 2002.

The index said Dublin house prices rose by just 0.3% in February, compared to 0.7% for the rest of the country, while the price of second-hand houses rose 1.2% during the month, compared to a rise of 0.7% in the cost of new houses.
