Colin Farrell were today named in a list of the world’s fifty most beautiful people.

Gangs of New York star Daniel Day-Lewis also made the annual catalogue of good-looking celebrities compiled by People magazine.

Farrell, 26, made his first appearance on the list after taking Hollywood by storm this year with roles in Minority Report and thriller Phone Booth.

The Dublin-born star – who is due to become a father in September – has also developed a reputation as a loveable rogue with his self confessed hard-drinking and chain smoking.

Phone Booth director Joel Schumacher said: “Colin is very handsome, with his jet black hair and the dark eyes and the pale skin.”

Julia Roberts appears on the list for a record eighth time together with fellow Hollywood actresses Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore and Reese Witherspoon.

Shaven headed Day-Lewis, 46, told the magazine he managed to remain beautiful with the minimum of grooming.

“I get ready pretty quickly,” he said. “It’s certainly easy from the hair point of view.”
