Farmers in Colombia
love soccer! After a 16 year wait to return to the World Cup these Andean farmers decided to use their sheep as a curtain raiser for the tournament.
With 10 ‘players’ aside the teams were dressed in the yellow and red of Colombia and in the colours of hosts Brazil.
The small town of Nobsa was the venue as spectators enjoyed a beer while watching the game.
Each sheep bore the name of player in both sides current World Cup squads and there were no injuries reported after the game.
It was, of course, a publicity stunt as part of ‘International Ruana Day’ which celebrates locals who make the hand-spun poncho-like woollen wraps popular in the region.
Colombia went on to seal a 4-3 win with Brazil bleating about the referee at the final whistle.
The real Brazil team kick off the World Cup on June 12 against Croatia while Colombia, minus star striker Radamel Falcao, meet Greece on June 14.
