Holy Orders could make a quick reappearance at Chester next Thursday in the Group Three betfair.com Ormonde Stakes following his smooth success over Limestone Lad in the Navan Racecourse Family Day Race.
Displaced as favourite by the popular runner-up, Holy Orders travelled strongly in the hands of teenage apprentice David Condon to win by three lengths and follow up last month’s course victory.
‘‘Holy Orders quickened up well under a lovely ride from David and I have him in Chester next Thursday. I will have a look at the entries for the Ormonde Stakes before I make up my mind,’’ said winning trainer Willie Mullins.
If he does not bid for a hat-trick on Thursday in the colours of Scottish businessman Allan McLuckie, the 5-2 winner could resume at Leopardstown later this month in the Listed Saval Beg Stakes over the same mile and six furlongs trip before going to Royal Ascot.
Media Puzzle was eventually beaten six lengths into third place for trainer Dermot Weld and champion jockey Pat Smullen who had joined forces earlier at the meeting to double up with the odds-on Gilded Vanity (4-6) and Wimbledon (4-1) to put Smullen on the 13-winner mark for the new season.
