A serial rapist, who walked free from court after admitting the continual rape of his young daughter over a 10-year period, is back before the Central Criminal Court this morning.
Patrick O'Brien of Old Court Avenue, Bray is due back up before sentencing judge Mr Justice Paul Carney whose decision to grant bail to a convicted rapist last Monday has sparked public outrage.
The 72-year-old pleaded guilty to sample charges of rape and indecent assault of his daughter Fiona Doyle over a decade from 1973 to 1982.
The judge suspended nine years of a 12-year sentence and was granted bail ahead of an appeal against his sentence.
The case is up for mention only and is expected to strike out any outstanding counts on the indictment.
However, there is an expectation that the DPP may make a separate application, possibly relating to O'Brien's bail or his appeal against his sentence.
