Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon and his wife, Mette-Marit, suffered second-degree burns during the filming of a television interview ahead of a trip to Germany next week, it was announced today.
The injuries occurred last Wednesday as the interview was being filmed by a German TV crew at the royal residence Skaugum, just outside Oslo.
‘‘The injuries were probably a result of an unfortunate combination of the strong spring sun and other light sources,’’ the statement said. ‘‘Crown Princess Mette-Marit also suffered small surface sores in her retina as a result of the recording.’’
The royal couple, who married in a fairytale wedding last August, were being treated by doctors, according to the palace.
It was not clear if they would be able to travel to Germany for the official visit, which was due to begin tomorrow.
‘‘The crown princess’s situation might have consequences for the planned trip to Germany,’’ the statement said. ‘‘A decision will be made about next week’s programme on Sunday morning.’’
