63% of employees would change jobs if they could access childcare facilities in work and most would take a pay cut if necessary, a new employment survey has revealed.

The survey by top recruitment website, RecruitIreland.com shows an overall increase in levels of dissatisfaction with childcare facilities and costs. Employers of just 5.6% of respondents provide childcare or crèche facilities at work.

63% of employees said they would leave their current employer if offered a similar job by an employer with childcare facilities and would even take a salary cut in this situation.

In financial terms, 58.5% would take a 10% salary cut, 32% of respondents would take a 20% salary cut and almost 5% would take a 30% cut.

Workers also feel that the Government should encourage employers to make such facilities available. 94% of respondents support tax incentives to encourage employers to provide childcare/crèche facilities in the workplace.

Meanwhile 30% of employees said they pay more for childcare than they do for their mortgage or rent.

Employees also state that they are caught in a ‘Catch 22’ scenario as over 75% believe that taking parental leave could hinder their chances of promotion at work.

The survey of almost 350 respondents was carried out over the past week and was posted on the RecruitIreland.com website.
