PSNI renew plea over fatal hit-and-run

Detectives investigating the murder of a Belfast man killed in a hit-and-run crash last year today renewed their appeal for information about a car with false number plates used in the incident.

William Morgan, from east Belfast, was deliberately run over by someone driving a dark-coloured Seat Toledo on July 6 last year in the north of the city.

He died in hospital five days after the incident in North Queen Street.

His wife Karen was pregnant at the time of the killing and he also left behind four-month-old daughter Bethany and son William, aged four and a half.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokeswoman said today that the family was “desperate” for detectives to be given information which would bring those responsible for his murder to justice.

“Detectives are keen to establish the movements of a dark Seat Toledo bearing the false registration VIA 9374 which struck and killed the victim,” she said.

“Police believe the vehicle was in north Belfast days before the incident.”

Detectives also understand that on the day of the incident the car was spotted at the nearby Yorkgate shopping centre and multiplex cinema.

“Police are sure someone somewhere knows what happened that night,” the spokeswoman said.

Detectives at Antrim Road police station in north Belfast have urged anyone with information about the vehicle or the incident to contact them directly.
