A Saudi Arabian sailor has shot dead a colleague and injured another at a naval college in the east of the country, the British Defence Ministry said today.

It said Aunan bin Fahad Al-Baqmi opened fire randomly yesterday.

It was not immediately clear whether the attack was linked to recent clashes between security forces and Muslim militants in the Islamic kingdom.

The government has launched a massive crackdown on the extremists following the suicide bombings in the capital Riyadh on May 12 that killed 35 people, including nine attackers.
