ICSA accuses rivals of misleading young farmers

The Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association has accused other farming organisations of misleading young farmers through their constant criticism of the EU's planned reform of the Common Agriculture Policy.

The Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association has accused other farming organisations of misleading young farmers through their constant criticism of the EU's planned reform of the Common Agriculture Policy.

The ICSA said rival farm groups were sowing the seeds of confusion by trying to hide the opportunities that will be provided by the mid-term review of the CAP.

The IFA is currently leading the opposition to Agriculture Commissioner Franz Fischler's proposed reforms, which it said would destroy Irish farming.

However, ICSA presidential candidate John Heney said: "The Fischler reforms present opportunities for new entrants into farming. The reforms provide opportunities for unrestricted access to established and expanding suckler herds, quality will be rewarded and money will not be wasted on non-viable enterprises."
