The Irish Farmers Association is seeking an urgent meeting with the Taoiseach to discuss its unhappiness with the way the Government is sharing out EU compensation funds for the sugar industry.

Yesterday, Agriculture Minister Mary Coughlan announced that around two thirds of the €145m compensation would go to Greencore, with farmers getting €40m.

Greencore and the IFA are both unhappy with the outcome and have both threatened to take legal action in an effort to secure more money.

The company and the farming group have each described the allocations as flawed.
