Monty changes mind and decides to defend title

Colin Montgomerie has decided to defend his Volvo Scandinavian Masters title next week, after threatening to pull out.

Colin Montgomerie has decided to defend his Volvo Scandinavian Masters title next week, after threatening to pull out.

A furious Montgomerie left the Open on Sunday saying: "I've pulled out of tournaments for the next two weeks. I can't handle it any more."

His anger was directed at journalists who wrote that he stormed off without speaking after his nightmare third round 84 at Muirfield.

The 39-year-old Scot was never listed to play this week's TNT Open in Holland.

Montgomerie's manager Guy Kinnings said: "Whilst he is fed up, he is going to play in Sweden. He feels it is the right thing to do - he does not want to let the tournament down."

Kinnings described the seven-time European number one as "shell-shocked" and then livid when he was portrayed as refusing to talk.

In February he threatened to cancel all trips to America after this season after he was heckled again. But he changed his mind about that and he has changed his mind again now.
