Johnny Adair's wife and family and his close associate, John White, have been forced to flee their homes after overnight fighting in the Shankill Road.
The group are now believed to have arrived in Scotland after travelling overnight on the ferry from Larne.
In the early hours of this morning, gangs of armed men from the mainstream UDA arrived in Adair's Lower Shankill stronghold where his wife, Gina, and child were still living.
Hand-to-hand fighting broke out and shots were fired. Police challenged one gunman and officers fired one shot before he made off.
One man was arrested. Adair's wife, Gina, and John White are understood to be among a group of 50 who fled on the ferry to Scotland.
Police in Scotland have confirmed a large group of people had arrived at the ferryport early this morning.
Pastor Jack McKee on the Shankill Road said he believed that although some might have scores to settle the feud was effectively over.
The funeral of the southeast commander of the UDA, John Gregg, takes place at lunchtime.
