The future of the A&E department at Navan Hospital has come under threat.
Senior HSE management has warned that the hospital is faced with a crisis in the recruitment of junior doctors, which could lead to an "emergency reconfiguration" in the short-term.
10,000 people are expected to attend a rally in Co Meath this afternoon in an effort to fight for the retention of services.
Sinn Féin TD Peadar Toibin is chairperson of the "Save Navan Hospital" campaign.
He said there is support from right across the community.
"The A&E is the most important, a pivotal piece of health infrastructure in the county
"It's essential to all the different community groups – GAA soccer, tennis, rugby, hockey, all the unions – all the community groups are gathering today to make sure this is a strong message to Minister Reilly that we need this A&E in the county."
