Farmers are asking consumers to become more aware of the meat they are buying by checking the source of origin.

Farmers are asking consumers to become more aware of the meat they are buying by checking the source of origin.

It is claimed some foreign beef, pork and chicken which arrives here is passed as Irish.

Most of it is dished up in pubs, restaurants and hotels and is often untraceable.

Irish Farmers Association president, John Dillon, said the Government must introduce tighter checks on imported meat to ensure there is no risk to the public.
