Kempton will guard against the impending cold spell by covering the entire jumps track on Saturday.
The Sunbury venue are due to race next Friday but as parts of Britain are forecast a severe frost over the coming days, they are keen to cover the track as early as possible.
The covers must be laid before frost gets into the ground, as illustrated at Cheltenham when the track managed to stage a meeting on New Year’s Day despite overnight temperatures dropping to minus seven degrees in the days leading up to it.
Kempton clerk of the course Brian Clifford said: “This is a prudent and sensible approach. We have the advance weather forecast for next week which indicates a very cold spell, therefore by deploying the frost covers it will give us maximum opportunity to stage jump racing next Friday.”
The Sunbury area is expected to experience night time temperatures as low as minus four degrees and highs of just two degrees in the daytime from midweek with snow also possible.
