Intel is expected to announce as many as 10,000 job cuts worldwide later today.

The computer-chip manufacturer is one of Ireland's largest employers with more than 5,500 staff, but financial analysts have predicted that Irish staff will not be greatly affected by the cuts.

The 4,000 job cuts in 2002 did not impact on Intel Ireland staff.
