EU finance ministers have condemned the European Commission’s response to their decision to suspend the rules of the EU Stability and Growth Pact.

The condemnation was issued at a meeting of EU ministers chaired by Irish Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy.

The EC has asked the European Court of Justice to determine whether the EU ministers acted illegally by suspending the rules of the Stability and Growth Pact last month.

The rules were suspended after both Germany and France exceeded their budget deficits.
