Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings were battling it out for another award today, at the children’s version of the Baftas.

While The Chamber of Secrets breaks records at the box office and fans eagerly await the release of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, the first two movies are competing in the best feature film category.

It is the latest in a long line of ceremonies in which the schoolboy wizard saga and the fantasy epic have been pitted against each other.

They are up against Disney’s Monsters, Inc and Stuart Little 2 at the awards, now in their seventh year.

They will be held at London’s Park Lane Hilton and hosted by TV personality Richard Blackwood.

CD:UK and SM:TV Live have each been nominated for best entertainment, while the Tweenies and the Teletubbies square up to each other in the pre-schoolers live action category.

Blue Peter’s Matt Baker and Konnie Huq compete for best presenter, while Bob the Builder goes head-to-head with Andy Pandy for best pre-school animation.

In addition to the 14 gongs, Bafta will also be handing out two special awards for outstanding creative contribution to children’s programming.

Celebrities from the worlds of TV, film and sport were expected to attend the ceremony.
