Three men were today being questioned by police about the attempted murder of a 14-year-old boy in Belfast at the weekend.

Three men were today being questioned by police about the attempted murder of a 14-year-old boy in Belfast at the weekend.

The teenager was seriously injured when he was stabbed a number of times in the early hours of Saturday morning in the east of the city, police revealed today.

Despite suffering stab wounds to the abdomen, chest and legs in the attack at playing fields near Prince Regent Road, the boy managed to escape.

He made his way under cover of darkness a short distance to Picardy Avenue where he was found by police and taken to hospital, said a police spokesman.

He underwent emergency surgery on his wounds and remains in a serious condition in hospital.

Police have appealed for information from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at around 5am on Saturday.
