Paul McGrane's storming displays in midfield with Armagh throughout this year's Senior Football Championship was aptly recognised last night at the Ulster GAA Writers' annual banquet in Bundoran.
McGrane was named Footballer of the Year ahead of Armagh captain Kieran McGeeney and young full-forward Ronan Clarke.
"I may be the player to get this prestigious award but our victory in the All-Ireland Championship was a team effort. We fought for each other and everyone played their part," said McGrane.
Jovial goalkeeper Benny Tierney received the Personality of the Year award while the Hurler of the Year honour went to young Antrim player Ciaran Herron who starred in the All-Ireland quarter-final against Tipperary.
A total of 640 people attended the function in the Great Northern Hotel. This was the 15th annual Bass-sponsored Ulster GAA Writers' awards night.
