The search for Laois backpacker Ronan Lawlor has been called off.

The search for Laois backpacker Ronan Lawlor has been called off.

His family were informed last night that he is dead.

The 28-year-old from Durrow was last seen at Torres del Paine National Park in Chile on November 18 and had not been in contact with his family since that date.

After an extensive search no body has been found.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern, and his department, are offering their deepest sympathies to the Lawlor family at this distressing time.
