Kildare suffer Sweeney injury blow

Kildare have been dealt an injury blow for Sunday's Leinster SFC clash with Wexford in Croke Park.

Left half-forward Ronan Sweeney has failed a fitness test on his injured ankle and will not be fit to start the game.

Facing an anxious wait also will be fullback Damien Hendy who has not trained in a week or so due to a "dead leg".

It is expected that either Padraig Hueley will come straight in for Sweeney in the half forward line or Alan Barry will be introduced into midfield along with Killian Brennan, with team captain Dermot Earley moving to left half forward - a position in which he established his reputation during the '98 championship campaign.

Those in the queue for Hendy's full back position include U -21 full back Robby McCabe of Ballyteague or Kilcock clubman Eamann Fitzpatrick.
