An Bord Pleanala has approved a €200m commercial and residential development on a six-acre site in the centre of Athlone, Co Westmeath.

An Bord Pleanala has approved a €200m commercial and residential development on a six-acre site in the centre of Athlone, Co Westmeath.

The proposed development includes retail outlets, houses, restaurants, cafes, a hotel and civic spaces.

More than 1,500 jobs could be created as a result of the scheme, which has been welcomed by the local chamber of commerce.
