The mother of a Catholic teenager who was murdered by two British soldiers in Belfast has slammed news that they are being sent to the Middle East.

Jean McBride, the mother of Peter McBride, said the two soldiers who killed her son are based with the Irish Guards in Germany and are due to fly out to the Gulf.

She queried the British government's decision to send two convicted murderers off to possible peacekeeping duties in Iraq.

She said there was every chance of the two soldiers being put back on the street with guns and a license to kill.

Mrs McBride said if "Belfast was too much for them, the mind boggles at how they might react in Iraq".
