Etlaala, a disappointment in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot at York, has been given the thumbs up to tackle the Group One Darley July Cup at Newmarket on Thursday week.
Angus Gold, racing manager to owner Sheikh Hamdan, said the one-time 2000 Guineas hope would stick to sprinting for now.
“Sprinting has been a whole new discipline for the horse, but he didn’t run a bad race in the Temple Stakes and Richard Hills is adamant he’s a sprinter,” he explained.
“I think we will keep going down this road with the option of stepping him up to seven furlongs for a race like the Hungerford Stakes later on.”
Plans to run Mubtaker in the Fred Archer Stakes at Newmarket last weekend were scrapped because the veteran has not shown trainer Marcus Tregoning that he is ready for a return to the course.
Gold continued: “Marcus feels he is not 100 per cent happy with Mubtaker and needs to give him a bit more time to increase the chances of getting him back right.
“He’s an eight-year-old and is not getting any younger, but he’s been a very good servant to us and we know he is usually better later in the year.”
