The body of a teenage boy was pulled from a river in Co Donegal last night.

The body of a teenage boy was pulled from a river in Co Donegal last night.

A search and rescue operation began shortly before 6pm after a 14-year-old was reported to have fallen in while fishing at St Johnson on the River Foyle.

Malin Head Coast Guard dispatched a Sligo-based helicopter along with boats from Greencastle station, assisted by the Foyle Search and Rescue from nearby Derry.

A body was recovered just after 9pm, gardaí said.

A spokeswoman said the boy was from the area.
