Munster's Ian Dowling will be out of action for six to eight weeks due to a knee injury sustained in the second half of the Magners League game against Connacht last Thursday.

Dowling was stretchered off in the 76th minute in severe pain.

There were worries that he could be out for the rest of the season.

Thankfully, the injury is not as serious as first feared.

It has transpired he suffered medial ligament damage.

He is certain to miss the Heineken Cup matches against Clermont-Auvergne and London Wasps and the Magners League trip to Edinburgh.
