Premiership: Effenberg drops Fulham hint

German World Cup veteran Stefan Effenberg has announced he expects to sign for Fulham this summer.

German World Cup veteran Stefan Effenberg has announced he expects to sign for Fulham this summer.

Effenberg has long been expected to leave Bayern Munich at the end of this season, and England was expected to be his first choice.

Asked if a move to Fulham was likely, the former Germany international told German daily newspaper Bild: ‘‘Things are looking that way.’’

The FA Cup semi-finalists appear to have seen off competition from Atletico Madrid and rivals Tottenham for the 34-year-old’s signature.

Effenberg signed for Bayern from Borussia Monchengladbach in 1998, and the last four years which have seen him take the Champions League and German Cup titles and three Bundesliga crowns.

The powerful midfielder could yet add another league and European crown to his haul before he leaves Bavaria on a free transfer this summer.
