SF vote for Ard Fheis for end of January
Sinn Féin tonight remained on course for a historic move this month to endorse support for the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
In a seismic shift, the 56-strong national executive voted in favour of holding an extraordinary Ard Fheis in Dublin on January 28.
If the motion to back the Police Service of Northern Ireland is passed, Sinn Féin will have opened the door for power sharing in Stormont.
Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams hailed the decision as courageous and historic and said it would have been wrong of his party to be blocked by the most negative elements of unionism.
However, he did warn that it was not a foregone conclusion that party negative would vote to support the PSNI and the criminal justice system.
