An armed gang which kidnapped and robbed a man in Derry and dumped him across the border in Co Donegal was tonight being hunted by police.

The man was unharmed, but suffered what police described as a “terrifying ordeal”.

He was confronted by a five man gang after leaving the off-licence in the Creggan area in which he works.

The gang is understood to have got away with several thousand pounds after driving their victim across the border and dumping him at Coshquin.

PSNI District Commander David Hanna said: “I would appeal to members of the public who saw anything suspicious outside the off-licence before 10pm or at the time of closing, when the victim of this crime was abducted, to contact us at Strand Road.”

He said they were also looking for a red car, possibly a Mondeo, which may have been used to get the gang to the scene of the crime.
