Two mountain-rescue teams have reached a 50-year-old man who was injured on the Comeragh Mountains this afternoon.

The South East Mountain Rescue team and the Tramore Rescue team were called out at about 4.30pm.

The man has sustained serious lower back injuries after falling on a particularly dangerous part of the mountain.

The rescue teams will have to stretcher the man off the mountain by hand as it is too dark for the coastguard helicopter to airlift him to safety.

They estimate the operation will take about four hours.
