The Green Party has been criticised for accusing immigration officials of 'racial profiling' following the detention of musician Youssou N'Dour at Dublin Airport last night.

The Senegalese singer and his band were held for three hours after failing to produce necessary visa documents.

Fianna Fail's Eoin Ryan says immigration officials were doing exactly what they are employed to do.

He says the band did not have valid visas and it took time to clear up the misunderstanding.

"They thought there is some sort of special agreement between some West African countries and certain countries within the EU, in which they don't need to have a visa.

"Ireland is not signatory to that agreement and that seems to be where the problem came up.

"But for somebody to come out and say it is racial profiling is a very insulting remark."
