Irish public "overcharged by doctors and lawyers"

A study commissioned by the Competition Authority has found that Irish people are being overcharged for services provided by doctors and lawyers.

A study commissioned by the Competition Authority has found that Irish people are being overcharged for services provided by doctors and lawyers.

Indecon, the company which carried out the research, said the Irish public is paying 10% to 20% too much for these services.

A spokesman said the main reasons for the overcharging are restrictions on conduct within the professions, including limits on advertising and the establishment of limited companies.
