ICT Ireland has said the decline in students enrolling for IT courses will harm the Irish IT sector in the coming years.
ICT, which represents the Irish IT sector, said demand for workers with high-tech skills is set to increase and the decline in students applying for IT-related courses could create a skills shortage.
Spokesman Brendan Butler said this, in turn, could damage the Irish economy.
