Man crushed to death in Dublin was photographing progress of construction

The man who was crushed between a digger and a wall yesterday was taking pictures of the construction work.

The incident happened in the harbour area of Skerries in north Dublin around midday yesterday.

The victim has been named as Harvey Wolfe, aged 54, who was an unemployed former transport manager from the area.

The keen photographer had been documenting the progress of the building work taking place at the site of a former hotel for a few months.

Emergency services had spent around 30 minutes trying to resuscitate Mr Wolfe, but he didn't recover.

Mr Wolfe's family said that his interest in the construction at Skerries harbour had filled up his time since he lost his job around three years ago.

His father, Jack, said: "He was taking photographs of the work-in-progress all the time."

Mr Wolfe's mother, Patricia added: "He had a great relationship with the workmen. They all knew him."

"I keep expecting him to come home. I suppose that's nature's way to help you get over it, that you don't take it in."

The Health and Safety Authority confirmed an investigation has been launched.
