Animal rights campaigners are due to mount demonstrations outside Irish embassies throughout the world today in protest at the duration of live animal transports.

The protest was organised by Compassion in World Farming, which wants the European Union to introduce an eight-hour limit on journey times for live animals.

Irish embassies are being targeted because the EU’s animal transport rules are being renegotiated and may be finalised during the Irish presidency of the union.
