The Irish Bank Officials Association (IBOA) has launched a new policy document in an effort to alleviate workplace stress among its 1,500 members.
The association said the document was drawn up in response to an increase in calls from bank workers who are under pressure to achieve ever-rising financial targets.
IBOA general secretary Larry Broderick said recent banking scandals had exacerbated the problem.
“That has increased the pressure on staff, particularly in AIB and NIB in the last six months. There has been enormous pressure on staff in the industry over the last number of years.
"It is a reflection of the banks’ intense pursuit of profit, sometimes at the expense of staff and at the expense of the customer,” he said.
