Usain Bolt will run the 100 metres at the Samsung Diamond League meeting in Monaco on July 22.
The world and Olympic champion, and world record holder, has accepted a personal invitation from Prince Albert II of Monaco, the president of the Federation Monegasque d’Athletisme which organises the meeting, the IAAF confirmed today.
Bolt told www.iaaf.org: “I am really looking forward to running for the first time in Monaco.
“I have been there several times at the IAAF Gala but have never actually competed there. Monaco is a beautiful place and when Prince Albert extended the invitation I could not say no. I like the warm weather and the fast track and hope to perform well in the Herculis meeting for its 25th anniversary.”
The meeting at the Louis II stadium takes place a month before the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, where Bolt will aim to defend his 100m and 200m titles.
