The Taoiseach has admitted Fianna Fáil has a battle on its hands to improve support for the party before the next general election.

The Taoiseach has admitted Fianna Fáil has a battle on its hands to improve support for the party before the next general election.

The party lost dozens of seats in the recent local and European Parliament elections.

As his time at the helm of the European Presidency is over, Bertie Ahern said he could now concentrate on domestic matters.

He stated that the parliamentary party had held a number of meetings to discuss the issue, and there was a lot of "organisational work" to be done.
